Smith, Scouts, VFW Teaming Up for Flag Retirement Ceremony
March 20, 2026
PUNXSUTAWNEY – State Rep. Brian Smith (R-Jefferson/Indiana) announced he’s teaming up with the Punxsutawney VFW and Cub Scout Pack 245 to properly and respectfully dispose of local, state and American flags.
The event will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the North Findley Street cemetery in Punxsutawney. It’s being held in conjunction with a cemetery cleanup organized by the Cub Scouts and Punxsutawney VFW.
“Winter can be tough on our roads and cars, but it also takes a number on the flags we fly,” Smith said. “Out of respect for what our flags represent, it’s important that we retire them in a proper and dignified way. This will give us the opportunity to honor the flags’ service, follow the traditions of respectful retirement, and replace them with new flags in fitting condition.”
Anyone who has an old, torn or tarnished flag may drop it off at Smith’s Punxsutawney office for proper and respectful disposal at the ceremony. The office is located at 109 Indiana St., Suite 3. Please call 814-938-4225 with any questions.
